Better day today

August26

Wow , what a difference a day makes. yesterday it looked like we were going to have bad weather for a couple of days. This morning the sun is trying its best to get out from under a veil of cloud and the wind has eased from yesterdays strong southwest winds. Not the best tides today with high at 6.30am  this morning and 7.15pm tonight.

We have Grab One promo running the next few days if you need more info just flick us an email and we will respond.

Back to Winter

August25

After a few days on sun and light winds winter is back with a  windy squally day today. So as you can imagine it is not a paddling day, today and probably wont be for the next few days. All cool it is winter and we just have to be patient for those classic sunny windless days in winter.

Last Sunday was rather pleasant, friends of The Shed made the most of the the afternoon high tide and sunny day. Check there attire if you are wondering what to wear when you go paddle boarding at this time of year. Being an island nation most of us have some sort of wetsuit or at least access to one.

Heading into the weekend

August21

If the weather man is to be believed we are in for pleasant weekend. a slow drifting winter high is positioning itself over us for at least some part of the weekend. the tides are favourable this weekend especially for those who don’t like an early start. Ht 2.00pm today and 2.40pm tomorrow.

Have chucked in a couple of pics we took the other day in Patikirau  Bay of a couple of beautiful Stingrays. Incredible creatures the way glide like boards . Not worried about paddle boards.

Gliding with a Ray

It was quite a foggy start to the day today. its lifting now and the sun is coming. The tide is on its way in. All sound too good to believe.

Light northeast winds at time of the report, that are forecast to get stronger.

Catch you later think Ill just slip out on to the Raglan Harbour for a quick paddle.

Funny old day

August20

Yes ist a funny old day weather wise. We have a mixed bag that is for sure. Southwest to west winds and rain squalls for 10 to 15 minutes then the wind eases and the sun comes out for 20 minutes. Then the sky goes dark and the wind starts to rise, next thing its raining and windy again. There are a couple of spots on the Raglan harbour you can hide from this wind but not the rain when it arrives. Ht 01.20pm.

It is looking like freshening southeast wind  this morning, That should  ease around midday and light winds this afternoon.

Groundhog Day

August13

Another blinder of a day with no wind this morning and a High Tide at 9.15 this morning. Just cant wait to get out there again on that glorious Raglan Harbour. You can be as well, with a little help from The Paddle Board Shed.

Yes this is winter

Yes this is winter

Contact us if you want to get out there. I geuss the key to it is scoring a nice day and combining it with a high tide. First step is get in touch and we can take it from there. Out there again. Cheers

Stunning winters morning

August12

This morning the Raglan Harbour is like a sheet of glass, check the pic below. One of those beautiful winters mornings. These are the days to make the effort and get on the water. It is not as cold as you might think. Wetsuit booties really help as you have to walk in the water at first. But you guys know once you have left the tera ferma you are not getting wet until it is time to finish.

The Sheds office window

The Sheds office window

So go on make the most of the uncrowded solitude and go for a paddle. Probably the hardest thing is working out what to actually wear. If you are a total beginner then a wetsuit is a good idea. If you have done it before but in summer, in shorts, then you need to wear something you think you can paddle in and stay warm. Once up and paddling your motion will keep your warm. So probably something like long arms and legs gym gear. But if just cruising and stopping and starting look at some sort of light weight jacket with a thermal underneath.

Anyway I have got to go and get on the water, cant look at it any more. See you back here later on. Oh thats right high tide was at  8.25 this morning. Cheers keith

Its winter I know

August7

Tell me about it, you are saying. Why would you want to go paddle boarding. Most days are windy but also there a few times when the paddling conditions are perfect. If you are a beginner you need to  have a wetsuit, otherwise you will freeze. But look once you have got the hang of paddling (which doesnt take long) you actually stop falling in and stay dry as. Just your feet getting wet.

So if keen send me a message and we can hook up on a nice winters day. Next week s looking good actually.

Cheers and stay warm

February4

The summer continues to impress with long hot sunny days and loads of paddling on the Whaingaroa Harbour. The Shed has been busy as with Grab one and treat me paddlers making the most of their vouchers and getting on the water. Also good to see people enjoying the early morning conditions by making the effort to get on the water early.

Whoa what a summer !

January22

Wow how has your summer been ? since new Year and by the way Happy New Year, we have been on the water just about every day. The sun has shone and we have had high tides when the winds have been light most sessions. One of the best years for water conditions and paddling out in front of The Shed.

Today was no different with a strong gusty northeasterly that died out around the high tide which was at 1218  and it then went glassy. Tomorrow looking similar, but we are booked out sorry. Next bookings available on Monday the 26th in the afternoon.

The wind finally abates

December7

Yes, finally on a Saturday it wasn’t windy from day break. yesterday was a great day to go paddling. Richard and his son Matt turned up bright and early for paddle. It was a beautiful morning with high tide around 10.30 and no wind at all.

Equinox Westerlies

December1

Spring for the summer of 2014/2015 will go down as one of the worst, for a litany of reasons if you are a paddle boarder or a surfer. Non stop westerly winds stopped any swell developing on the East Coast for surfers and paddle boarders alike. While here on the Whaingaroa Harbour, westerlies have been strong enough to blow out most paddling spots . The wind has been westerly,  not our usual southwest which is the right angle for down wind paddle.

The good news is we only have a couple more weeks to go. This weather pattern normally starts to change at the end of December. The wind starts to abate and the wind direction should go more easterly for awhile.

Wild and windy Wednesday

November12

Windy as today with strong gusty west to southwest winds. Not good for beginners or even the more experienced, with the Whaingaroa harbor covered in white caps. High tide is this afternoon around 2.30pm. The more experienced paddlers will probably try for a downwinder on the out going tide.

Windy Wednesday

Windy Wednesday

November8

Morning not a lot of wind first thing but it is looking like a freshening west to southwesterly by this afternoon. High tide is at 11.40 this morning and the Whaingaroa Harbor is looking brilliant for a paddle.
